it's me

I'M ELLE PATTON
Somehow, you found your way here.
Maybe you saw one of my hats out in the world. Maybe someone sent you my way.Or maybe you were searching for something rare—something handmade, honest, and built to last.
However, you arrived, I’m glad you’re here.
Steel Mare was born from the horses who shaped my life.Three mares—each unforgettable—stand at the heart of this brand:
Squirt, a tough little Mustang with endless patience.
Java, a steady yet stubborn Quarter Horse who pushed me further than I thought I could go.
Zen, a powerful Paint mare with the gentlest soul—gone too soon but never gone from my work.
Their strength, grit, and quiet presence are woven into every piece I create.
My path here wasn’t linear. After an equestrian accident and years spent in the corporate world, I realized I didn’t want to wait any longer to build something meaningful.
I stepped away from the expected path and returned to something older, craftsmanship shaped by hand, guided by instinct, and rooted in tradition.
At Steel Mare, “custom” is not a trend—it’s a process.Every hat begins with a conversation. How it will be worn.Where it will go.What it should say without words.
From there, each piece is shaped, balanced, and finished by hand—built not just to be worn, but to become part of your story.
Steel Mare exists to honor the enduring.Pieces made with intention.Made with character.Made to last for years—not seasons.
If this speaks to you, I invite you to reach out.Let’s exchange ideas.Let’s create something personal.Something one-of-a-kind—crafted for you, and yours alone.

From Raw to Refined
01
Each hat begins as a raw form—
shaped through steam, time, and a practiced hand.
02
03
No two are alike.
Each carries its own balance, character, and story
This is not mass production.
This is craft.

“I’ve owned a lot of hats over the years, but nothing like this. The fit, the weight, the way it sits—it just feels right. You can tell it was made with intention.”
— Sarah M.
“From the first conversation to the final shape, the whole process felt personal. It wasn’t just about the hat—it was about getting it right.”
— Jake R.
“I bought one from the collection and didn’t expect it to feel this custom. It’s the one I reach for every time I leave the house.”
— Emily T.
“There’s something different about it. The balance, the details—you can feel the craftsmanship the moment you put it on.”
— Lauren B.
